Travel through Mexico on an all-you-can-drink tequila train

Bottoms up! The Jose Cuervo Express is back on track, with 2021 tickets on sale now

Daydreaming about your first post-lockdown vacation? If it’s a sunny, tequila-soaked romp you’re after, set your sights on the Jose Cuervo Express, an all-you-can-drink ‘Tequila Train’ that winds through the Mexican countryside on an 11-hour journey between Guadalajara and Tequila, Jalisco.

After temporarily pausing service last year, the train roared back to life in December 2020 with four boozy experiences to choose from. The newest of the bunch – the Elite Wagon – is equipped with comfy couches, massive windows for sightseeing and a dedicated open bar, where socially distanced guests are treated to a menu of tequila cocktails. Along the way, passengers can also participate in an educational, expert-led tasting of Jose Cuervo’s premium products. Don’t worry – regional snacks are provided along the way to pad your belly. All in, the upgraded comforts will cost you $166 per person, with trains departing on Saturdays every two weeks.

Looking for something a bit more affordable? Seats in the Express Wagon go for $116 per person and include many of the same perks (minus the premium tasting and bespoke cocktails). Or meet in the middle with the two other available train cars, Premium Plus and Diamond, both of which boast dedicated bars, plenty of booze and stellar views. No matter which wagon you choose, all guests are invited to disembark the train along the way to explore a sunny agave field and observe a harvesting demonstration.

Due to government restrictions, the Jose Cuervo Express is operating at reduced capacity to keep passengers and staff safe on their journey between Guadalajara and Tequila. But with bookings currently available through the end of the year, there are still plenty of seats available on what must be the world’s booziest train. All aboard!
